The future lie

One of the things that I hope the Democrats do as they focus their messaging for the presidential race is see the true gold mine of nonsense revealed by the 2021 comments Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance made- & has been defending- about the Democrats being run by "childless cat ladies" who are just miserable people without "a direct stake" in the future. Besides focusing on the self-righteous, obnoxious aspect of his vision (which is certainly clear to me as someone without children who virtually visits multiple cats via Instagram), I would like to see people focus more fully on what his view of "a direct stake" in the future really means.

Other than theoretically having a personal sense of investment and hope for one's own offspring, which I think most parents feel to some degree, this guy seems to show very little care or investment in anyone else's future. There is the way he works against policies that help working families and is enthralled with government having complete control over the future of women's access to abortion and reproductive healthcare. Just as essential in my opinion, though it is often discussed separately as its own category, is how Vance and his peers have their heads in the sand (really: their wallets) on climate change. It's wild to read the details of how much Vance has switched his story from someone who was investing money in an EV charging startup in 2020 to someone eager to do the bidding of the fossil fuel industry & repeal policies and programs that are just the beginning of meeting the challenges of climate change.

I want to see the Democrats take on the lies- the utter incompatibility with reality- behind Vance, Trump, and the entire Republican party, proud of their new platform that doesn't mention climate change but does spell out “We will DRILL, BABY, DRILL". I want this politician supposedly obsessed with children and the deep connection with the future they automatically grant him to answer why he now advocates policies on climate that amount to 'Burn, Baby, Burn!!' for the future years his offspring will experience on a planet with more wildfires and extreme heat warning days.

I like the 'Chart of the Week' feature that the clean energy journalism site, Canary Media, regularly offers. This recent one shows how solar and wind energy generated more of the EU's electricity than fossil fuels for the first time during the 1st six months of 2024. They also mention how permitting reforms have helped smooth out the process of bringing more renewable energy online.
